Sometimes, I Need A Reminder

Yesterday afternoon, I was working on an Indie Beauty project at the kitchen table with my laptop. My husband was cleaning something up off the kitchen floor -- some spill left by either a 5-year old or a 7-year old. It was peaceful and quiet, when suddenly, my daughter rushed into the house screaming, "Mommy! Can I go over Emily's house?" I was right in the middle of writing a sentence, and wouldn't you know it, her question knocked it right out of my head. I took a deep breath, and gave my daughter permission to go and play with Emily. Off she went.

My husband looked at me. His gaze confirmed what I already knew. My response to our daughter was, well, shall we say, a bit on the curt side. My husband reminded me that I should be thankful to have a little girl who comes home and asks if she can go someplace else instead of assuming she can go without first asking permission. He also reminded me that in a few years, I'll wish she'd come rushing through the door -- any door -- to talk to me. He wasn't lecturing me, just reminding me to be thankful.

So this morning, I'm reminding myself to be thankful. Not the kind of thankfulness that comes because it's a day off or a good time to gorge on food and drink. But the kind of thankfulness that bubbles up from deep down inside to acknowledge the blessings that are all around us.

I Am Thankful For You

I consider my family to be a chief blessing. I also consider you, dear reader, a chief blessing. So many of you are my friends. Through the Indie Beauty Network, my blog, Indie Business Radio, etc., I've gotten to know many of you well. I think that no matter how long I live, or how long my family members live, I shall never ever be lonely in my life because of you. And today, I am so thankful for that.

As I write these words, it's about 24 hours after my husband and I were notified that his dad was admitted to the hospital for emergency surgery. Tonight or tomorrow morning, he will undergo a triple bypass.

My father-in-law raised 7 children. My husband is his youngest son and they share a special bond. Today, our Thanksgiving will be filled with thoughts and prayers for Granddaddy Johnson and for the doctors, nurses and other professionals who are tasked with his care. We hope and pray for his healing and a positive outlook. We also pray for the situation in Mumbai and in countless other places around the world where there is pain and suffering.

You Are A Blessing

We meet here once a week around our businesses and special interests. But for me, we also meet as friends. And every time I am privileged to be welcomed into your life via this newsletter, I am reminded that, despite it's difficulties and heartache, this life offers so very much to be thankful for.

Thank you my friends. Today and always, may you be engulfed in the love and affection of the people who matter most to you.

Happy Thanksgiving!
